Brandon Ellis’s Round 17 AFL Rising Star nomination means Richmond now has the equal-second most nominees this year for the competition’s prestigious young play
Ellis joined defender teammate, Dylan Grimes, who was nominated back in Round 3 this season.
Richmond has the same number of Rising Star nominees as Brisbane, with only AFL newcomer, Greater Western Sydney, having more. GWS has had five debutants nominated in its inaugural season of league football.

The list of Tiger Rising Star nominees over the past five seasons is an impressive one, with seven young players either already putting their stamp on the game at the highest level, or poised to do so in the near future.
Club vice-captain Trent Cotchin and star spearhead Jack Riewoldt were nominated in 2008; gun midfielder Dustin Martin got the nod in 2010; Reece Conca and Jake Batchelor received nominations last year; with Grimes and Ellis joining them in 2012.
Dual Jack Dyer Medallist Brett Deledio is the only Richmond player to have won the AFL’s Rising Star Award, taking out the title in 2005.
