Richmond legend Neville Crowe is lucky to be alive after falling almost eight metres into the Yarra River on Saturday.

Crowe, the Tigers’ former captain (1963-66), three-time Best and Fairest, long-serving President and life member, was riding his bicycle along the Yarra River when fell off the track and into the water.

Thankfully, John Greene, a Richmond local and loyal Tigers’ supporter, who was jogging at the time, came to the aid of Crowe, who was struggling in the water.

Greene, along with other passers-by, was able to help Crowe from the water, to the safety of the river bank.

Crowe suffered only bruises and abrasions from the incident.

To show his gratitude, Crowe presented Greene with a Richmond guernsey signed by past Richmond players, including the captains of the 1973, ’74 and ’80 premierships teams.
