Riewoldt shares goal success
Richmond spearhead Jack Riewoldt can sit back and reflect on another productive season in front of goals, but he won’t take the credit all for himself.
Richmond spearhead Jack Riewoldt can sit back and reflect on another productive season in front of goals, but he won’t take the credit all for himself.
At last week’s Jack Dyer Medal presentation night, the 23-year-old collected his third consecutive Michael Roach Medal for being the Tigers’ leading goalkicker.
A few days earlier, he secured his second career Coleman Medal, after a six-goal haul in the final round took him to 65 for the 2012 season.
But as he addressed the 1300 Richmond fans at Crown Palladium, he made an effort to single out the unsung heroes whose hard work enabled him to hit the scoreboard so proficiently.
“To win awards like the Michael Roach and Coleman medals is something that I truly am really proud of, but I’ve got over the fact now that they’re individual awards,” Riewoldt said.
“I do play full forward for the Richmond Football Club, so I’m going to try and kick as many goals as possible, but all I’m really doing is finishing off the hard work of my team-mates up the field.”
Riewoldt commended the work of Shane Edwards, Brett Deledio, Robin Nahas, Ivan Maric, Trent Cotchin and Jake King, who combined for a total of 92 goal assists during the 2012 season.
He also expressed his excitement to be working with an emerging midfield group, a young and talented defence, and an evolving forward line.
“We’ve got a great group. It’s really something I’m excited to be a part of. It’s all starts again in two months’ time,” he said.
Richmond is returning to the Cardinia Shire for an open training session, followed by a player-led kids clinic, on Tuesday, January 21.

The Tigers lost some huge names over the off-season. But after having seven picks inside the top 30 in the Telstra AFL Draft, Richmond will certainly have some young cubs worth considering in 2025.
