RICHMOND midfielder Brett Deledio says the Tigers had no inkling either way whether Melbourne was tanking during the match late in 2009 in which Jordan McMahon kicked a goal after the siren to win the match for the Tigers.

Deledio was responding to questions at a press conference about Carlton midfielder Brock McLean's claims on television on Monday night that his former club, Melbourne, had thrown matches in 2009.

Melbourne gained a priority pick and the first selection in the 2009 national draft after winning only four games that season.

It chose Tom Scully and Jack Trengove with the first and second selections.

McLean said on Fox Footy's On the Couch program that "blind Freddy" could have worked out that the Demons were not doing their best to win every match in that season's closing rounds.

But Deledio said it had never crossed his mind to question anything that Melbourne, or any club, has done.

"I don't follow what other clubs do," he said.

McMahon was swamped by Richmond teammates after the Tigers' four-point victory over Melbourne in round 18, 2009.

"We went about trying to win the game," Deledio said.

"What Melbourne did was their business.

"As you saw when Jordie kicked the goal, we were rapt to win."

Deledio said he could comment no further about McLean's claims.

"That's Brock's opinion, I suppose, and Melbourne's business," he said.

"Here at Richmond we try to win every game, and have done so since I've been here."

He said he was sure the AFL would do everything in its powers to ensure that tanking never happens.
