Tigers on record crowd pace
Richmond has achieved something in the first half of this season that it hadn’t previously managed since its 1980 premiership year.
Nine rounds into season 2012, the Tigers have attracted crowds of 50,000-plus to four of their matches - Round 1 v Carlton at the MCG: 78,285; Round 2 v Collingwood, MCG: 57,268; Round 8 v Essendon, MCG: 80,900; and Round 9 v Hawthorn, MCG: 51,617.

They also just fell short of the 50,000 mark in the Round 3 clash with Melbourne at the MCG, which drew a crowd of 49,826. And, given the hype surrounding Friday night’s big clash with St Kilda at Etihad Stadium, another 50,000 crowd beckons.
The triumphant 1980 season was the only other time in the Club’s league football history that it has had four 50,000-plus crowds in the first half of the year.
In Round 2, 1980, Richmond drew a crowd of 51,548 against Essendon at the MCG, the Round 8 attendance against Carlton at the ‘G was 85,673, Round 10 v North Melbourne, MCG, was 61,769, and Round 11 v South Melbourne, Waverley Park, was 50,017.
Richmond is averaging more than 55,000 in four home games at the MCG this year, compared to its 2011 season home average of 52,000.
