Troy Chaplin’s third-placed finish in last Monday night’s 2013 Jack Dyer Medal count, further highlights the success of Richmond’s recent focus on mature-age recruiting to fill holes in the playing list.
The experienced, former Port Adelaide key defender, completed a fine first-up season at Richmond with that top-three placing, just as ex-Adelaide ruckman Ivan Maric had done the previous year.
Maric had also capped off an impressive debut season for the Tigers in 2012 by finishing third in the Jack Dyer Medal.
A year before that, Bachar Houli had finished fourth in Richmond’s 2011 Best and Fairest after crossing over from Essendon in late 2010.
In three complete seasons at Tigerland now, Houli hasn’t been out of a top-10 placing in the Jack Dyer Medal.
He followed up his fourth in 2011, with equal 10th in 2012, and outright 10th this year.
Shaun Grigg, who was another of the Club’s Opposition and List Analyst Blair Hartley’s signings in late 2010, also is three from three in terms of top-10 Jack Dyer Medal finishes.
The ex-Blue was 10th in 2011, fifth in 2012 and ninth this year.
Another Richmond mature-age recruit, Steven Morris, has achieved two top-10 Jack Dyer Medal results in two seasons at the Club.
Morris was seventh in his 2012 debut season, and equal seventh this year.
