Coburg coach David Newett says an even contribution across the board helped Coburg back on the VFL winner’s list on the weekend.
Alex Rance, Pat Contin and Robbie Nahas were among the best in Coburg’s 17-point win over Frankston at Craigieburn on Saturday.
Rance had 35 possessions (19 kicks and 16 handballs) while Nahas collected 31 and kicked a goal. Pat was also a valued contributor with 28 touches.
“David Gourdis and Alex Rance set up a lot of our rebounds and they both helped to repel a lot of Frankston’s inside 50’s. I was very happy with their performance,” Newett said.
“Dylan Grimes did exceptionally well to play two quarters in the reserves and then due to a late withdrawal, play in the seniors. He was a key player in our defence.”
Dean Polo also had a solid performance with 22 possessions, 11 kicks and handballs.
Despite the Tigers being out of contention for the VFL finals, Newett is gearing his players up for a challenging end to the season.
“We’ve got three games left against three strong sides. I’m hoping we can disrupt a few teams and show how we have progressed this season,” he said.
Coburg takes on North Ballarat at Eureka Stadium this Sunday August 8 at 2pm.
