Richmond midfielder Shaun Grigg believes the Tigers are well placed to take the momentum they have built up over the pre-season into the season proper.

“I think we’ve got a lot of confidence out of the pre-season we’ve had,” Grigg said.

“We’ve had a really solid few months and we’ve implemented some of the things we’ve worked on, during the NAB Cup, which has been pleasing.

“Our defensive stuff has been the big improver so far, and also the way we’ve used the ball.  I think we’ve looked after it a bit more and given our forwards better use . . .

“It’s ‘Dimma’s’ third year at the Club and teams take a bit of time to get used to the game plan and the way we want to move the ball.  It’s a progression.  We’ve changed over about 30 blokes in the last few years.

“The transformation stage is finished, I suppose, so we’re all trying to work together and improve.”

Grigg, who was an effective contributor in Richmond’s 59-point victory over reigning premier Geelong at Simonds Stadium, in last Saturday’s third round NAB Cup match, has a straightforward aim in mind for his second season at Tigerland.

“I just want to be a valuable team-mate again . . . just to play my role, whatever the coaches and the boys need me doing.  I’ll just put my hand up and do it,” he said.
