Richmond is on track to record the highest aggregate home-and-away season attendance figure in its history.
The Tigers smashed through the one million home-and-away attendance mark for the fifth time ever, when a crowd of 67,054 saw them defeat Geelong by three points in last Friday night’s thriller at the MCG.
That took their 2018 attendance total to 1,043,369, with three rounds to go.
Their all-time record for a home-and-away season is 1,054,354, which was set in 2015.
They first attracted a million home-and-away spectators in 1998 – 1,023,821.
Then, in 2013, they had an attendance figure of 1,040,290.
Last year, 1,024,751 fans watched them throughout the home-and-away season, before their triumphant finals campaign.
The 67,054 attendance at last Friday night’s match was the biggest for a Richmond v Geelong home-and-way clash since 1980.
In Round 17 of that season, the Cats defeated the Tigers by 17 points at the MCG before a crowd of 70,068.
Richmond, however, gained revenge a few weeks later, defeating Geelong in the second semi-final and advancing through to the Grand Final, where it demolished Collingwood.
