Richmond star Brett Deledio will become the competition’s current-day, consecutive games record-holder when he lines up against the Gold Coast Suns in Saturday’s Round 16 clash at Cairns’ Cazalys Stadium.

Deledio, who has played 107 games in-a-row, takes over from Carlton’s Kade Simpson, whose sequence of 158 successive appearances came to an end at the MCG last Friday night when he suffered a broken jaw, which will sideline him for several weeks.

The 25-year-old gun Tiger midfielder has not missed a game since Round 17, 2007.

He has played 164 games out of a possible 168 since making his AFL debut with Richmond in the opening round of the 2005 season, missing just four through injury.
Along the way, he’s collected the AFL’s Rising Star Award in his debut season, back-to-back Jack Dyer Medals in 2008-09, and earned a reputation as one of the classiest players going around.

Another Tiger star, Jack Riewoldt, has now moved into equal third place on the league’s current-day consecutive games list.

He’s played 71 games on-the-trot, which is the same as Sydney’s Josh Kennedy.   North Melbourne captain Andrew Swallow is second to Deledio, with 80 successive games.
