New recruit Brandon Ellis has described being drafted to Richmond as “the best feeling in the world”.

The 18-year-old has experienced a whirlwind start to life in the Yellow and Black, jetting off with team-mates to the United States just days after being drafted.

Ellis was surrounded by family and friends when his name was read out at pick 15 in the National Draft, by Richmond recruiting manager Francis Jackson.

“Ever since I was a little kid I’ve wanted to play AFL...it’s always been my dream,” Ellis said when he sat down with Roar Vision this week.

“Now I’m a Tiger, and my dream has come true.”

In a wide-ranging interview, Ellis spoke about his path to the AFL, his father’s battle with cancer, and his brief retirement from the game.

“I’m very proud of myself.  After all the sacrifices I’ve made in the last couple of years...it’s all paid off,” he said.

“But it all starts now.  I’ve got here, but I can’t take that for granted, and I’m going to do everything I can to be a really good Richmond player.”
