Outstanding midfielder Dustin Martin has become the first Richmond player (since official league football match statistics were first recorded in 1965) to register 40-plus disposals in a game more than once in a season.
Martin’s dynamic 40-disposal display against Brisbane at the MCG on Sunday was the second time this season he’s achieved this impressive individual statistical milestone.
Back in Round 3, Martin had 40 touches in the Tigers’ victory over West Coast at the MCG.
He has now finished with 40-plus disposals in a match on three occasions, which is a feat throughout Richmond’s history bettered only by four-time Jack Dyer Medallist and former Club captain Wayne Campbell, who did it on four occasions throughout his 297-game league career at Tigerland.
Interestingly, it was exactly 12 months to the day since Martin picked up 40-plus disposals for the first time at AFL level.
Martin finished with 43 touches and two goals in the Tiger team’s 19-point win against Essendon at the MCG in Round 17, 2016 on Saturday, July 16.
