Back-to-back finals campaigns for the first time in four decades . . .

That’s what new Richmond president Peggy O’Neal has described as a pass mark for the Tigers next season.

This year, Richmond secured its first finals berth since 2001, and O’Neal wants that to be the catalyst for some sustained Tiger success.

“We got a taste of finals and we all liked it.  I would hope that we play successive finals for the first time since the mid-70s,” O’Neal said on 3AW’s ‘Sports Today’ program.

“I think a pass mark is we have to play finals, but we’d like to do a little bit better than that.

“While we did play a final this year, we all hoped that we would win that and go a little bit deeper into the finals campaign.

“So, I think a pass mark is we have to get into finals again, and we have to win one.”

O’Neal is determined to ensure Richmond continues to make steady progress as it strives to re-establish itself as a league powerhouse.

“No doubt things have improved greatly in the last five years . . . There’s been a lot of hard work to get us to where we are now,” O’Neal said.

“The important thing for us is not to slip backwards, to not let up at all on the discipline that we’ve brought financially, and in trying to make good decisions.

“It’s important that we continue to make intelligent, prudent, reasonable decisions and continue to edge forward.”
