Richmond’s Manager of VFL Strategy, Wayne Campbell, has been appointed as the AFL’s new National Umpiring Director.
Campbell replaces Jeff Gieschen, after spending the last five seasons with the Tigers in a number of off-field roles, and will commence his new role in mid-January.
“We could like to congratulate Wayne on his new position at the AFL, and wish him every success,” said Richmond’s General Manager of Football, Dan Richardson.
“Wayne has made an exceptional contribution to the Richmond Football Club, as a player, coach and administrator, and his appointment is a fitting reward for his hard work over a number of years.
“Most recently, he has done an outstanding job in developing and implementing the strategy aligned to the establishment of the Club’s new VFL team.”
Campbell played 297 games for Richmond from 1995-2001, won four Jack Dyer Medals, was captain from 2001-04, and was inducted into the Tigers’ Hall of Fame earlier this year.
