It was a veritable who’s who of Tigerland that attended the first major function of the newly-formed Sunraysia Tigers supporter group in Mildura last week.
Richmond 1980 premiership heroes Michael Roach, Mark Lee and Dale Weightman were joined by four-time Jack Dyer Medallist Wayne Campbell and Tiger icon Matthew Richardson, as the star attractions at the sell-out function, which took place at Mildura’s Setts Club.
Footy is just around the corner, become a member of Richmond for 2013.
With entertainment provided by Andrew Startin, who had the audience of nearly 400 people in stitches due to his brilliant impersonations of the likes of Bruce McAvaney, Dennis Cometti and ‘Sam’ Newman, plus plenty of Richmond memorabilia available for purchase (including a beautifully-framed Trent Cotchin guernsey), it was a truly memorable evening, in the heart of the Tigers’ old country recruiting zone.
The Sunraysia Tigers were formed this time last year following Richmond’s AFL Community Camp in Mildura.
They held three match-day functions in their first year (coinciding with the Tigers’ Friday night games against St Kilda and Essendon, plus a Sunday afternoon clash with North Melbourne), which were all well attended.
Given the success of this latest function, the group is already planning a bigger and better one next year.
