Richmond speedster Matt White has capped off one of his finest AFL seasons by winning the Club’s Most Improved Player Award at the 2013 Jack Dyer Medal event.
White, in his eighth season with the Tigers, played 16 games and established himself as a first team regular by season’s end.
After a slow start to the campaign, the 26-year-old found his niche as a substitute capable of adding fresh legs late in games.
However, a string of strong performances in that role saw him earn a starting spot of his own, and he became an important member of the line-up.
White missed just two games from Round 7 onwards, both through injury, and averaged 12.6 disposals and kicked 11 goals.
He was unfortunate to miss out on Richmond’s Elimination Final loss to Carlton, after failing to recover from a hamstring strain, which he suffered in Round 23 against Essendon.
The previous three winners of Richmond’s Most Improved Player Award were Shaun Grigg (2012), Alex Rance (2011) and Shane Edwards (2010).
