Richmond speedster Matt White hopes to become to known as an “everywhere specialist” after another standout performance at Patersons Stadium had him described as a specialist at that venue.

White said he was well aware of the tag as a “Patersons Stadium specialist”, showing on Monday night why his speed and endurance can prove a handful on the biggest ground in the competition.

Starting just his second game of the season without the green substitute vest, the 26-year-old was hoping to continue to string games together and become a consistent AFL player.

“From what I’ve been told I am, I don’t want to be (just a Patersons Stadium specialist) anymore, I want to be an everywhere specialist,” White said of the tag.

“Patersons Stadium really suits me down to a tee. It’s good coming from the background of both styles of running. When you need to get into the space, I’ve got the speed to get there and the endurance.

White picked up 19 disposals, laid five tackles and booted a goal to be a decisive factor in Richmond’s 41 point win over West Coast.

It was his third consecutive game and fifth AFL match in total this season after spending time at Coburg in the reserves.

“It was my first full game in about five weeks, I completely run out of legs in the last quarter,” he said.

“There was just guys ahead of me at that stage (time in the VFL).

“Chris Knights was playing amazing football at half forward and he was pretty much the guy keeping me out of the team.

“He kept putting up great performances. Unfortunately for him, his knee gave way underneath him which opened the door for me to come in then and (I’ve tried to) stamp my spot from then on.”

White said he was pleased by the return of midfielder Nathan Foley who played his fourth straight game against the Eagles since returning after a wretched run with injuries.

“He showed he got his pace back on Monday night,” White said.

“Watching the replay today and seeing it on the ground, he was bursting out of packs and running away from packs like he was pre-achilles injury and pre-ankle and everything else that he had, his form from five years ago.

“He’s now caught up with the speed of the game I think.”
