Richmond’s No. 1 ruckman Ivan Maric is renowed for his inspirational qualities as a player, but he admits to being inspired, himself, by how the Tigers are currently going about their football.
“It’s great the way we’re playing,” Maric told Channel 7, following Richmond’s stirring 10-point victory over Adelaide at Adelaide Oval last Saturday night, which was its seventh successive win.
“It’s really powerful and it’s great to be a part of.
“It’s a great feeling to be a player in a Richmond guernsey at the moment . . .
“I think we’re a really fit side at the moment, and fighting all the way to the end, which is fantastic.
“It showed in the first and second quarters, where we kicked some late goals, which is good for our group . . .
“I hope our fans really appreciate the way we’re playing at the moment.”
Maric, who battled admirably right throughout the bruising encounter, up against the Crows’ leading ruckman and strong All-Australian contender, Sam Jacobs, was confident the Tigers could withstand the home side’s last-quarter surge, and emerge victorious.
“It was electrifying, the crowd, when they got going, kicking all those goals in-a-row, and we couldn’t kick one,” Maric said.
“Things were going against us, but we stuck to our way – our game plan – and the way that we all want to play.
“We knew if we did that, we’d get the points.”
