Star Richmond spearhead Jack Riewoldt didn’t rate the Tigers’ victory over St Kilda at Etihad Stadium last Saturday as highly as the previous two weeks’ losses to Sydney (Round 14) and Fremantle (Round 13), but believes they’ll gain plenty from it.
“It’s good to get a win . . . I don’t reckon we played today as good as what we did the last two weeks. We were a little bit off, but I think our natural talent got us over the line,” Riewoldt said.
“The win’s been a long time coming, so we’ll obviously enjoy it, and build on it for next week.
“You can build confidence off having a win, and we saw some really good performances.
“I thought the skipper (Trent Cotchin) was outstanding and Brandon Ellis was good as well. Apart from those two, and Alex Rance’s job on Nick (Riewoldt), there weren’t really many standouts. So guys are pulling their weight, which is what you need in a good side.
“It’s just proof to the pudding that if you do continue with your defensive efforts, which we’ve really improved, the scoreboard will go your way.”
