Now that young Richmond midfielder Anthony Miles has won his promotion to the Club’s senior playing list, he’s determined to make the most of the opportunity.
Miles, who played 10 senior games in two seasons with Richmond’s opponent this Saturday, Greater Western Sydney, was told of his elevation from the Tigers’ rookie list during training yesterday.
It’s a fitting reward for the 22-year-old, who has displayed excellent form at VFL level for Richmond this season.
“I’m extremely excited,” Miles told Tiger great Matthew Richardson in an exclusive ‘Roar Vision’ interview.
“To be elevated on to a senior list, at a club like Richmond, is a dream-come-true . . .
“It’s been good to develop my game in the VFL and, through the coaches, I feel I’ve been able to improve as the season’s gone on.”
Miles outlined the areas of his game that he’d been focusing on while playing with Richmond’s VFL side . . .
“It was to win the contested footy, win clearances and then, from that, I probably had to develop a bit of my defensive side of things, and I’m still working on that. My spread from stoppage, my skill efficiency, and skills by foot, were some other things that I’ve been working on as well,” he said.
Contested football is a major area of strength for Miles.
“Something that I like to pride myself on, is being able to win more one-on-one contests than what I lose,” he said.
“We struggled a little bit in clearances and contested possessions last week, but it’s been a strength of ours over the last couple of years, from what I’ve heard.
“Matty Thomas (also a promoted Richmond rookie tough midfielder) brought that earlier in the year, and if I get a chance, I’d like to be able to do the same.”
Miles would like nothing better than to get that senior opportunity with the Tigers on Saturday.
“It would be massively exciting against the old side,” he said.
“I’ve still got some good mates up there, but when you cross the white line, it’s on for young and old.
“It would be a massive opportunity to play against the Giants."
