Rookie-listed player Anthony Miles has been going about his football business in extremely impressive style, with a string of excellent performances in the VFL, as well as Richmond’s pre-season hit-outs.

Miles arrived at Richmond via the 2013 Rookie Draft, following two years with Greater Western Sydney, where he played 10 senior games.

The 22-year-old inside midfielder is relishing his new opportunity at one of league football’s traditional clubs.

“Coming from the Giants, it was fantastic to be there for the start-up couple of years.  But, being around this Club, there’s just such a great history and past players that have come in as well.  It’s just a great place to be around,” Miles said.

Miles is also enjoying Richmond’s bolstered football development department.   He spends considerable time with the new coaches, who have been added to support the Tigers’ standalone VFL team and emerging players.

“The professionalism the coaches bring, like the amount of editing they do, and even coding training, has been fantastic. There’s not much that goes unnoticed in terms of our games, and they’ve really been helpful picking every little detail out, which I rather enjoy,” he said.

“I work with ‘Clarkey’ (VFL coach Tim Clarke), and Andrew McQualter pretty closely, being a midfielder. ‘Mini’ is (McQualter) only fresh out of the game as well, so it’s been great to get his insight into how things are going.”

Miles also reunited with Mark ‘Choco’ Williams at Richmond, after the pair spent time together at GWS.

“Choco has been fantastic for me.  Even when I was at the Giants, he was a big backer of mine, so probably part of the reason why I am at Richmond is because of Choco.”

Despite missing out on a rookie elevation before the start of the season, Miles continues to work hard on his game to ensure he eventually receives an opportunity to be added to Richmond’s senior list.

“Come the end of the year, I’d like to be pushing to be elevated.  That’s probably my main goal, and just continue to play consistent footy.”
