Richmond will pay special tribute to its former players, who left an indelible mark at Tigerland, with a new home-game theme for MCG games throughout the 2014 season.

The “Coming Home Hero” is designed to publicly recognise the mighty deeds of those who wore the famous Yellow and Black jumper with such distinction.

The concept will be launched at the MCG next Thursday night (March 27), when the Tigers take on Carlton in a Round 2 blockbuster clash.

One Richmond legend is to receive due recognition during the pre-game build-up at each Richmond MCG home fixture (10 in total) for season 2014.

Our Coming Home Hero will walk from the centre of the ground to the Punt Road end, where he’ll be acclaimed by the Tiger Army.  He’ll then proceed to kick a ceremonial goal, before signing the ball and giving it to a Richmond fan in the crowd.

The Coming Home Hero’s playing career highlights will be displayed on the big screen during this time and, in the lead-up to each MCG home game, richmondfc.com.au also will focus on his achievements for the Tigers.

Among those to be recognised are Richmond’s back-to-back premiership stars of 1973-1974.

The Tigers, under the inspirational coaching guidance of Tommy Hafey, dominated the league football competition in those two seasons, with a combined total of 39 wins from 50 matches, including the ’73 Grand Final victory over Carlton, and the ’74 premiership-decider success against North Melbourne.

Several of the greatest players in Tigerland history were part of the 1973-74 premiership sides – the likes of Royce Hart, Kevin Bartlett, Francis Bourke, Michael Green and Dick Clay.
