Richmond will be out to avoid an unenviable record when it hosts Brisbane at the MCG this Saturday.
The Tigers have lost their past seven MCG games, which is an equal record for the most consecutive defeats they’ve suffered there in the one season, since the famous venue became the Club’s home ground in 1965.
Back in 2004, Richmond also lost seven in-a-row at the MCG – to Fremantle in Round 12 (by 10 points), Essendon in Round 15 (78 points), Melbourne in Round 17 (56 points), Collingwood in Round 18 (5 points), Geelong in Round 19 (31 points), Hawthorn in Round 21 (23 points) and Sydney by Round 22 (64 points).
This season, after defeating Carlton by 10 points at the ‘G’ in Round 2, the Tigers have been beaten there by Collingwood in Round 4 (38 points), Hawthorn in Round 6 (66 points), Geelong in Round 7 (5 points), Melbourne in Round 9 (17 points), Essendon in Round 11 (50 points), Fremantle in Round 13 (20 points) and Sydney in Round 14 (11 points).
The most MCG losses on-the-trot that Richmond has recorded all-up, since becoming a co-tenant of the ground in 1965 has been eight, which has happened twice – from 2004-05 and 2009-10.
Richmond’s all-time longest losing streak at the MCG is 13, from 1954-65.
