Scans have revealed Richmond veteran Chris Newman suffered a medial calf strain in his right leg during the final quarter of the Tigers’ match against Geelong on Sunday afternoon.

He is expected to be sidelined for 4-6 weeks.

Richmond’s Physical Performance Manager, Peter Burge, said Newman was disappointed to suffer the injury, but is remaining positive.

“This is the first soft-tissue injury Chris has had in his 12-year career. He’s a good healer and is optimistic the injury won’t keep him out of action for too long,” Burge said.

“Chris is currently walking without crutches and has already started his rehab, to ensure he can get back to contributing on-field.”

Newman, who turns 32 later this month, has played 240 league games.
