Three weeks into life at his new football home, Richmond’s first pick in the 2014 National Draft, talented, young midfielder Corey Ellis, opens up on a range of Tiger-related topics . . .
Early days as a Tiger
“It’s been very full-on, but very enjoyable. Each day goes for fairly long, and each training session’s pretty hard . . . All the boys are great, and they’re very welcoming.”
Straight to Townsville
“It was definitely a bonus (going directly to the Club’s pre-season camp in Townsville after being drafted). You just got to bond with everyone a lot closer than what would happen down here.”

Immediate goal
“I just wanted to really earn the respect of the players by putting my head down and getting the stuff done. But, in saying that, I just wanted to get round and know a few people as well.”
Tracing top Tigers’ tracks
“Definitely like to follow ‘Cotchy’ (Trent Cotchin) around, and (Brett) Deledio – both midfielders – and learn some things off them, which will help my game.”
The draft-day experience
“I tried to keep myself busy all day . . . it didn’t really work, though. The thought was always in the front of the mind and, when my name was read out, I was very relieved . . . just over the moon to be picked, and staying home (in Melbourne), actually. I had a few family and friends around, and it was just a good experience. To be picked up, has been a dream my whole life and, for it to happen, for it to be a good result like Richmond, I’m really pleased.”

Slight setback
“I go in for some minor foot surgery on Friday, and I should be back on the track by the time we start next year.”
2015 goals
“I want to play a few senior games, at least, next year. But for that to happen, I’ve got to be training well, and learning the structures and everything . . .”
