Richmond has received a timely boost with the return of valued veteran Chris Newman for Saturday’s Round 13 clash with Fremantle at the MCG.
“It’s good that ‘Newy’ is back after missing four or five weeks with his calf,” Tigers’ assistant coach Danny Daly told Roar Vision’s ‘Spotlight’
“He’s trained the house down the last couple of weeks and gives us a bit of experience out there and a bit of run.
“Whether we play him forward or back, not sure yet, but he’s a welcome addition to the side.”
Newman, who turned 32 last month, has played 240 games for Richmond in a league career that started in 2002.
The Tigers also recalled ruckman Shaun Hampson for the match against Fremantle, who was recalled after just one week on the sidelines. Hampson averages 31.3 hitouts per match in his nine appearances in Yellow and Black so far.
Dylan Grimes has also come straight back into the senior side, for his eighth game of the season, after he missed last week’s game against North Melbourne with a toe injury.
And Aaron Edwards has earned another chance at AFL level, with the 30-year-old named for his second game for 2014, on the back of some brilliant form in the VFL.
For the second week running, Brad Helbig and Brett O’Hanlon have been named as emergencies, along with Matt McDonough.
