Richmond star key forward Tom Lynch is embracing his new part-time role within the Tigers’ line-up.
Lynch and his 2019 Tiger premiership forward teammate Jack Riewoldt provided the team’s sole ruckman Ivan Soldo with a chop-out in last Thursday night’s 2020 season re-opener against Collingwood at the MCG.
“I enjoyed it. ‘Dimma’ floated the idea to Jack and I that we might pinch-hit a little bit, when we got back after the break. So I was looking forward to it,” Lynch said.
“I think it’s good to get up the ground. Obviously up forward you can be starved of opportunities at times, and having a run around in the middle you can get amongst the footy . . .
“I suppose I’ll have to do a little bit, along with Jack, if we’re not playing two ruckmen.
“We just had a different set-up last year with the two rucks.
“Obviously with the shorter game-time, Dimma leant towards having one ruckman on the weekend.
“That may change, but I’m more than happy to get in there, spend that 10 percent in the ruck throughout the game, and Jack do a bit as well, just to give Soldo a little bit of a rest.”
