Ivan Soldo’s competitive spirit came to the fore in last Thursday night’s 2020 season re-opener against Collingwood at the MCG.
Up against the AFL’s best ruckman, Brodie Grundy, the 204cm, moustachioed premiership Tiger acquitted himself extremely well.
Although he finished with only six disposals and two marks, it was his game-high nine tackles, 23 hit-outs and five one-percenters that stood out.
With his exemplary work ethic, Soldo ensured that Grundy did not dominate, and that was a crucial factor in Richmond being able to secure a draw after trailing by four goals early on.
It was another significant step in the league football development of the 24-year-old former basketballer, who has made just 24 senior appearances with the Tigers, having been a late starter to the game.
