Injured Richmond star Brett Deledio has provided an interesting insight into the machinations of the West Coast web, and how the Tigers can overcome it in Friday night’s Round 4 clash at Domain Stadium.

The Eagles catapulted into the 2015 Grand Final on the back of their intriguing, innovative rolling zone, and they are rated as one of this season’s top premiership chances.

“From what I saw last year, especially their backs, they don’t tend to care who they play on,” Deledio said on this week’s edition of Roar Vision’s ‘Opposition Analysis’.

“At some stages, they had Sharrod Wellingham lining up on Jack (Riewoldt), but they didn’t worry about that because they knew the help would come from the other side to come across and give another contest.

“The important thing for us is our forwards to not let them just stand in space and cover our dangerous space . . .

“We’ve got to work really hard to lead through them and give our wingers and on-ballers an option.”

Deledio also gave his thoughts on how best to deal with West Coast’s prolific ball-winning midfield, led by 2014 Brownlow Medallist Matt Priddis, Luke Shuey Andrew Gaff.

“(You need) Someone who’s smart enough to be beside them and try and limit their impact on the game, but then get off them and use the ball well,” he said.

“If you can have some score involvement and generate plenty of the footy, then that is probably the way to go, because the old shutdown tag these days is probably a thing of the past.”
