Goals of the Year: No. 1
A first-year Tiger produced only one goal in the 2012 season, but it was a clear fan favourite.
We’re counting down the top 10 Tiger goals of the 2012 season, according to your votes on richmondfc.com.au. Over the last two weeks we’ve unveiled the top 10, one per day. Today, we reveal the winner.
No. 1 - Steven Morris
Round 9, second quarter v Hawthorn at the MCG
Richmond recruit Steven Morris kicked just one goal in his debut season for the Tigers, but it was good enough to collect 35 per cent of the fans’ vote in the 2012 Goals of the Year.
Morris’ individual piece of brilliance happened at the home of football, the MCG, in Richmond’s most famous victory of the season, against Hawthorn.
In characteristic fashion, the 23-year-old threw himself into a contest on the wing, before bouncing to his feet to get involved in the next chain of play.
Quick hands from Nathan Foley and Dustin Martin saw the ball in Morris’ hands, running toward goal.
He cleverly side-stepped Ben Stratton, ran to 25m and drilled a checkside goal at the Punt Road end.
With Richmond having the No.1 pick in the 2024 Telstra AFL Draft, we are taking a look at the three players previously taken by the Tigers as the top draft selection, concluding with Brett Deledio in 2004.
