Dustin Martin’s flying finish to the 2019 home-and-away season was reflected in the final two rounds of voting for the AFL Coaches Association’s Player of the Year award.
The superstar Richmond midfielder polled a perfect 10 votes following his powerful performance against West Coast in Round 22, and then received four votes for his first-class display against Brisbane in last Sunday’s Round 23 clash at the MCG.

Martin, who won the prestigious coaches’ award in 2017, finished with 71 votes this year – 41 of those coming during the Tigers’ nine-game winning streak since the mid-season bye (he missed the Round 21 victory over Carlton because of soreness).
Another gun Richmond midfielder, Dion Prestia, underlined his excellent consistency throughout 2019 by picking up seven votes in the last two rounds.
Despite star Brisbane on-baller Lachie Neale racking up a whopping 51 disposals in last Sunday’s match, it was top Tiger defender Nick Vlastuin who received the most votes – nine – after his sterling showing.
