Four-time Richmond premiership player and Team of the Century member Michael Green has paid a glowing tribute to Tigers star key forward Tom Lynch.

In an interview with Mike Sheahan on Fox Footy’s ‘Open Mike’ program, Green spoke about the major impact Lynch had within Richmond’s line-up last season after transferring from the Gold Coast Suns.

“I’ve always fancied big blokes who could take marks and kick goals. I think they are very valuable and can make a big difference to a side,” Green said.

“They’re difficult to pick up. When you look at any draft, at what comes out of a draft, champion forwards don’t come out of drafts every year.

“If you look at Richmond last year, if we didn’t have Tom Lynch, I doubt we could have won it (the premiership). I doubt we would have made the finals.

“With Jack Riewoldt being injured for half the season, if we hadn’t had Tom Lynch up there as a target in the forward line, we would have struggled to make the finals, in my view.

“And then, in the finals themselves, I don’t think we would have beaten Geelong in the preliminary final . . . Tom Lynch was best on the ground.

“So, big blokes who take marks and kick goals, I find very attractive, very valuable players.”
