Richmond midfielder Kane Lambert says keeping the community healthy should be at the forefront of people’s minds in the current climate.
Speaking to Triple M on Monday morning, the 28-year-old said it’s a time to "stick together and look after each other."
"The reality is, as footballers and young, healthy athletes, we’re going to be okay with this. But there are people in our population who are extremely high-risk and they need the help, they need the support and it’s up to us to provide them with that," Lambert said.
"Their well-being and welfare should come first.
"As footballers, we’re conditioned to play football and we want to play football as much as we possibly can. But there’s also a responsibility to do the right thing by our community."
There's nothing better than hearing the roar of the Tiger Army at the MCG in Round 1.

It's possible that down the track, there could be changes to the structure of games and the season itself, however Lambert wasn’t fazed by that prospect.
"With everything, there’s always opportunity," he said.
"Potentially, this might be an indirect way to trial some things going forward to make the game better.
"My personal view is that I’d play football 12 months of the year. Any opportunity I get to play AFL football and especially represent the Richmond Football Club, is a fantastic one for me."
Richmond has taken steps to protect staff, players and fans, but in terms of the team’s schedule and training, Lambert said "everything’s been as normal as possible" in the lead up to the season opener.
"At this point, we’re preparing to play Thursday and we have a responsibility to play a brand of football that our fans sitting at home can stay engaged and connected and be proud of," he said.
