Richmond has been defeated by fellow newcomer Gold Coast by 11 points at Metricon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers took the lead midway through the first quarter before the Suns booted four answered goals to secure their first AFLW win, 5.3 (33) to 2.10 (22).

Richmond skipper Katie Brennan was a solid contributor for the visiting side with 14 touches and six tackles in an intriguing battle with Sun Jamie Stanton, who impressed with 20 disposals.

The Tigers clawed back late and dominated territory in the last quarter, but struggled to kick straight in front of goals as Gold Coast kept them under pressure.

Tayla Stahl was a standout for the Tigers, kicking her first goal in the AFLW in her second game. Christina Bernardi worked hard and was a strong presence up forward.

Phoebe Monahan was once again a key pillar in Richmond's defence, topping the Tigers for disposals (21) for the second week straight and taking four marks.

Richmond debutant Grace Campbell showcased great toughness and speed around the midfield, adding a different dimension to the Tigers' onball brigade.

"We attacked the game really well, we just couldn't capitalise in the forward 50." – Richmond coach Tom Hunter.

"It's an absolute dream to play with such hard workers." – Richmond forward Sabrina Frederick on teammates Tayla Stahl and Christina Bernadi.
