Richmond’s No. 1 ruckman Ivan Maric played a valuable role in helping lure big man counterpart Shaun Hampson across from Carlton during the AFL’s recent trade period.
Hampson told Tiger ‘Immortal’ Kevin Bartlett, on his SEN morning show, that Maric had been a factor in convincing him to make the move to Richmond.
“Three or four weeks ago, I went in and had a meeting with them and had a look around the Club. Big Ivan came in on his holidays to show me around,” Hampson said.
“He’s a really nice guy and he asked me what I saw my role as . . . just another ruckman to free up (Ty) Vickery and help big Ivan, who’s had a couple of great seasons, out.”
Hampson has plenty of admiration for his new ruck partner, both on and off the field . . .
“I’ve always treated him (Maric) with a lot of respect,” Hampson said.
“He’s tough, he’s strong, he can spread forward on you . . . he’s good.
“I learned a lot from him and, hopefully, we can teach each other a few things.
“We’ve got big Brendon Lade there as well, who’s looking forward to working with us both, too.’
