It was a drought-breaking night for Richmond at Etihad Stadium last Friday . . .

Not only did the Tigers record their first win against St Kilda since Round 4, 2003, but it was their first Friday night success since Round 19 of the 2007 season, when they defied the odds to defeat Collingwood at the MCG by 20 points - 18.8 (116) to 14.12 (96).

In that Tiger triumph, Brett Deledio, playing his 59th game, booted five goals in his role up forward and received two Brownlow Medal votes for his efforts, while Nathan Foley (27 disposals) got the three votes, and Matthew Richardson one vote.

Richmond drew with the Saints under the Friday night lights at the MCG last year (Round 2), breaking a sequence of seven consecutive Friday night losses.

The thrilling eight-point victory over St Kilda last round also was the first time the Tigers had collected four points on a Friday night at Etihad Stadium since Round 6, 2004, when they beat Hawthorn by one point - 12.12 (84) to 13.5 (83).

That match took place a week after the infamous spitting incident in the race at the same venue, involving an irate Tiger fan and then coach Danny Frawley, following a thumping defeat at the hands of Adelaide.

Greg Tivendale (30 disposals) was awarded the three Brownlow Medal votes that night, with Hawk ruckman Peter Everitt receiving two votes and Wayne Campbell one vote.

The Tigers had lost their previous five Friday night games at Etihad Stadium before the Round 10, 2012 victory over St Kilda.
