Richmond ruckman Shaun Hampson is up for the challenge of taking on West Coast’s high-leaping, star big man Nic Naitanui in tonight’s clash at Domain Stadium.
“He’s obviously an amazing ruckman . . . You can’t really plan much against Nic Nat,” Hampson told ‘Roar Vision’.
“You’ve just got to watch a bit of the vision and see what works well against him, see what other ruckmen have done, and hopefully try to replicate that, and just limit his impact a bit.”
Hampson has taken on the mantle of the Tigers’ No. 1 ruckman in the absence of Ivan Maric, who hasn’t played a senior game so far this season due to a back complaint that he’s now recovered from.
Despite having had an injury-interrupted pre-season himself, Hampson has responded admirably to the added responsibility within Richmond’s line-up.
He is about to play his fourth senior game in-a-row, which is something he hasn’t managed since early in 2014, he’s averaging nearly 30 hit-outs per match this season, and he’s starting to take a few marks, as well.
“I had double ankle reconstructions at the end of last season, which was well overdue. That was just years of wear and tear,” Hampson said.
“The body’s feeling really good. No pre-season isn’t ideal, but hopefully I can finish this season off good, and next year have a big pre-season.”
