Shane Edwards has reinvented himself as a dangerous, medium-sized forward in his sixth season of AFL football.

Edwards, who previously had played predominantly as a midfielder, has asserted considerable influence in his new role over the past month.

He has kicked 10 goals in his past four games (three v Essendon, Round 8; two v Hawthorn, Round 9; two v St Kilda, Round 10; and three v Fremantle, Round 11) and added a new dimension to the Tigers’ attack.

The 23-year-old veteran of 98 league games, clearly was Richmond’s best forward in last Saturday’s 12-point loss to Fremantle at the MCG.  He adapted well to the wet conditions, picking up 16 possessions, applying five tackles, and booting three of the team’s nine goals.

With an overall tally of 11 goals to the halfway stage of the 2012 season, Edwards is poised to soon surpass his previous year’s best goalkicking total of 12, which he set in 2008.
