REECE Conca's unlucky run with injury has continued, with the Tiger set for a stint on the sidelines with a foot problem he suffered in Richmond's loss to Adelaide last week.
The 24-year-old 's strong form so far this season will be interrupted for "3-6 weeks" according to the club after injuring the Lisfranc joint in his foot.
He sustained the injury early in the Tigers' heavy loss to the Crows and this week learnt of its severity, with coach Damien Hardwick ruing Conca's poor injury history.
"When we get really excited about his progress, unfortunately, something like this happens. We're really pleased with the season he's put out thus far and he'll work his way back into the side," Hardwick said on Thursday.
"I've got no doubt he's going to be a good player. He just hasn't had a good run for it and at some stage his luck's going to turn. We're hoping this will be the back of it."
Conca, who was taken at pick No.6 at the 2010 NAB AFL Draft, has played 86 games across his career at the Tigers, but just 15 since the end of the 2014 season after dealing with bouts of injury.
Former Magpie Dane Swan and ex-Geelong forward Mitch Clark have been among the players in the competition to have suffered serious Lisfranc injuries in recent seasons, but Hardwick said Conca was coping well with his latest setback.
"He's disappointed because he's not going to play, but if you're going to get injured you want to go out playing well, which he has," Hardwick said.
"He goes out confident knowing he can play at a high level. He'll be back."
Conca will be one of at least two changes for the Tigers' clash with the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.
Richmond also has to replace in-form ruckman Toby Nankervis, who was suspended for one week by the Match Review Panel. The yet-to-debut Ivan Soldo and his cousin, veteran Ivan Maric, are competing for the position, but Hardwick said there was no awkward family rivalry ahead of the match committee's decision.
"They're incredibly close and whichever way it goes they'll be supportive of each other. Ivan (Maric) is doing an outstanding job working with all our rucks at the moment. That's the calibre of person he is – he'll certainly put the team before his own person performance," Hardwick said.
"We've got Ivan's (Maric) experience that we like and then we've got Soldo's youth and exuberance which we like also. We'll be looking at both of those options."
Hardwick nominated Sam Lloyd, Anthony Miles and Corey Ellis as among the other Tigers who could come into the side for the clash.
