Richmond VFL coach Tim Clarke provides an exclusive summary of how the AFL-listed players performed at VFL level in Saturday’s win against Frankston.

Nathan Foley
30 disposals, 16 clearances, 9 tackles
Was outstanding.   Won the Anzac Medal and was our Caydon player of the day.  Picked up more than 30 disposals, had nine tackles, and was very dominant inside at all stoppages.

Corey Ellis
24 disposals, 11 clearances, 7 tackles
Played his best game for the Club.  Another of our players who was prominent in winning contested possessions, finishing with 16. Set us up offensively and made good decisions going inside 50. He’s really starting to show why he was a first round draft pick.

Jason Castagna
20 disposals, 6 clearances
Continues to improve on his game running off half-back.  Very composed with the footy and made good decisions.  Also drifted forward and had two shots for goal, which is something in his game that he’s been working on.

Connor Menadue
16 disposals
Worked tirelessly on the wing right throughout the match.  Was better in the contest, and continues to improve with his inside-50 entries.  Also is getting more rebounds.

Ben Lennon
2 goals, 15 disposals
Played a solid game across half-forward.  Could have ended up with four or five goals, but missed two or three that he should have kicked.  Helped set up several more goals for teammates.  Is another player pushing hard for senior selection.

Matt Dea
14 disposals
Made the defence much more stable. Cut off many of Frankston’s transitions and helped set up offensive play for the team off half-back.  Our defence is always much stronger when he is playing.

Shaun Hampson
69 hit-outs, 1 goal, 13 disposals
Most dominant big man on the ground with almost 70 hit-outs.  Also went forward, took a couple of marks, and kicked a goal, which was pleasing, as that’s something he’s been working on over the past few weeks.  Providing the likes of Foley, Ellis, and Cachia with first use, through his dominant ruckwork, was a real feature of his game.

Ty Vickery
4 goals, 13 disposals
Battled hard throughout with a pretty good match-up on James Wilsen, one of Frankston’s main backs.  Had plenty of shots for goal, and out of the 15 contests he was involved in, he didn’t lose one.  Showed the quality of player he is, and will be pushing hard for senior selection.

Liam McBean
3 goals, 11 disposals
Probably the best game he’s played so far this year.  This was mainly due to his defensive pressure.  He had four or five tackles and many chase-downs.  It was really pleasing to see him play this kind of game.  Still managed to hit the scoreboard three or four times as well, which is something we expect from him.  He continues to show encouraging signs of improvement.

Reece McKenzie
10 disposals
Drifted in and out of the game a little bit, but showed what a quality player he will be in the future.  Took three or four really strong, contested marks.  Needs to put himself in positions to get used more, so he can start to dominate VFL matches.

Jayden Short
10 disposals, 5 tackles
Was a bit quiet in the first half offensively, but his defensive work was fantastic.  He applied some strong tackles and put Frankston players under huge pressure.  Got going offensively in the second half and helped set up a couple of goals.

Todd Elton
4 disposals
Had a mixed game.  He played back in the first half and did a very good job on one of Frankston’s key forwards.  Was then moved forward to see how he’d go in a different role.  He continues to develop as a key defender and is ready to go if a position opens up at senior level.
