Richmond coach Damien Hardwick is hopeful last weekend’s stirring victory over Collingwood can parlay into something substantial for the Tigers, starting with Sunday’s match against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.
That success broke a three-game losing streak for Richmond, and took its record this season to three wins, four losses.
“There’s no doubt it was a quality win . . . For us to play a good style of footy, with five first-year players effectively in, was a great result for our footy club and something we want to build on,” Hardwick said.
“But the proof will be in the pudding this week.
“We’ve got another huge challenge versus Port Adelaide . . .
“Their form, probably a little bit like ours, has been inconsistent over patches of games, but we all know what they’re capable of.
“We’re pretty much in a similar boat. It’s just both of us ironing out inconsistency over the course of a game . . . It’s going to be a good game.
“We’re a side that is capable of playing some really good footy and hurting some sides, and Port Adelaide are very similar.
“We both haven’t played our best footy thus far, but we’re both looking forward to seeing that.”
