Port Adelaide v Collingwood:
COLLINGWOOD by 4
Both teams had narrow losses to top sides last week, but let’s not forget Port’s loss to Carlton the week prior. Too reliant on the likes of Wingard, Schulz and Gray, their flat patches may get punished by the consistent Pies. This is a game to buck the trend, as many of your fellow tipsters will be tempted to follow the odds and side with the Power.
Richmond v Carlton
RICHMOND by 37
Deledio, Cotchin and Martin may get too much of the ball for an improved Carlton to overcome, despite the tendency to start games slowly of late. A Rance-led defence will shut out any Blues efforts, if it is to venture down that way.
Essendon v Melbourne
MELBOURNE by 20
Essendon hit a season low last week, which will be hard to climb back from. On the other hand, Melbourne fought hard against the Eagles, tiring in the end, kicking one goal to six in the last quarter. Add to that Melbourne’s shock win against the Cats the week prior, and their 4-1 record over the Bombers since ’09, we’re tipping the Dees.
Western Bulldogs v Gold Coast
WESTERN BULLDOGS by 14
Another tough game to pick, which will likely split the punters. The return of Ablett (31 disposals, and three goals last week) sparked an intensity in the Suns, spurring them to a 55-point win against North Melbourne. While they’ll deal well with the Cairns heat, they are still missing some run through the middle. The Bulldogs have shown they can get up for the task at hand, notching wins against Carlton and St Kilda in the past two games, and this week should be no different.
