We continue our 2017 pre-season special series, reliving Richmond’s build-up to the glorious, drought-breaking 1967 premiership triumph.  From the archives of ‘The Age’ newspaper, we present a Tigers’ training report published exactly 50 years ago today (March 15, 1967).

“Richmond centreman Bill Barrot is back in training following a mouth infection which kept him in bed for 10 days.

Barrot lost half a stone and is still getting back to top strength.

Forward Ross Warner and rover Peter Hogan made their first appearances for the season.  Warner is over a poisoned leg and Hogan is walking freely again after having a bruised toe.

Wingman Trevor Gowers, who is recovering from an operation to his right foot, jogged several laps, but still needs more time before he will be moving at full pressure.

Bill Walford is resting with ligament trouble in his right foot and it may be another fortnight before he joins in match practice.”
