Nathan Drummond was one of the unlucky ones in 2013.
Overlooked at the National Draft after two seasons at the Murray Bushrangers, his AFL dream was put on hold.
Twelve months on, Drummond had completed a fine season as a returning 19-year-old at the Bushrangers, winning the Club Best and Fairest and performing brilliantly at the AFL Combine.

Richmond, who got a glimpse of his ability in three games for the Club’s VFL team in 2014, gave him an opportunity with pick 52 at last year’s Draft.
“I’ve always strived to make it at the highest level. I missed out on the draft in my 18 year, and that drove me to get here this year,” Drummond told Roar Vision.
“It’s been a goal of mine since I was a really young age. Seeing a lot of my mates get drafted when I missed out was a real motivation for me to get picked up.
“It was my second time, so I came in more prepared, and had a feel on how to prepare for if I didn’t get picked up.”

In his first six weeks as a Richmond player, Drummond has been shown the ropes by Dylan Grimes, who he moved in with after the Club’s pre-season camp to Townsville last year.
“I’ve been getting some tips off him. He’s really professional, and organised. He’s been really good for me,” he said.
Judging by his attributes and attitude, it’s no surprise Drummond came into the Tigers’ calculations at the draft table.
“I think I can play multiple positions on the ground, and I’m someone who’ll work hard both ways. I pride myself on being a strong tackler as well,” he said.
“I haven’t looked too much past just training. I want to train hard, put my hand up for a NAB Cup game, and see how I go after that.”
