Yasmina McGlone was named Richmond’s inaugural Victorian Wheelchair Football League Best & Fairest at last night’s vote count, held in the Maurice Rioli Room at the Swinburne Centre.
Prior to the league’s Best & Fairest award being announced, each Club presented their own Best & Fairest medal.
McGlone took out the Richmond award on 12 votes, ahead of teammates Judeland Ajith Antony on 11 votes and Tim Nield on 10.
McGlone, a popular winner, began the VWFL season as a rookie, though very quickly discovered a natural ability.
Raw talent aside, McGlone is known equally for her hard work off the court as she is for her prowess on it, committing to extra skills and training sessions outside of the regular training schedule.
Her ability to take strong marks, her speed across the court, and her tenacity in contests has seen McGlone receive accolades from teammates, fans and opponents alike, becoming a well-loved player across the league.
Richmond player Riley Fitzgerald also took out the league’s Highest Goal Scorer award, shooting 53 goals during the VWFL season.
Both McGlone and Fitzgerald were named in Team of the Year, adding to Richmond’s successful showing in the inaugural Robert Rose Foundation Victorian Wheelchair Football League.
The overall league Best & Fairest was awarded to St Kilda’s Patrick McKay.
