Richmond captain and star midfielder, Trent Cotchin, has been rewarded for his inspirational display against Collingwood at the MCG last Thursday night with maximum votes in the AFL Coaches Association’s Player of the Year award for Round 2.
Cotchin was superb in the Tigers’ 19-point win, racking up a team-high 26 disposals, including 13 contested possessions, a game-high eight inside-50s, equal game-high seven clearances, game-high 11 score involvements, three rebound-50s, two goals, along with an equal game-high seven tackles and an impressive 582 metres gained (equal second-most in the match).
He duly received 10 out of 10 from rival coaches Damien Hardwick (Richmond) and Nathan Buckley (Collingwood).
Dynamic Richmond midfielder Dustin Martin followed up his 10-vote display in the season-opener against Carlton by collecting three votes in Round 2.
Martin had 25 disposals, including 15 contested possessions, nine score involvements, four inside-50s, three clearances, two goals, and 509 metres gained.
The Tigers’ mature-age, ruck recruit Toby Nankervis also was awarded three votes after finishing with 21 disposals, including 14 contested possessions, an equal team-high seven clearances, six inside-50s, three rebound-50s, plus an equal game-high seven tackles, five marks and 18 hit-outs.
