Talented Richmond forward Sam Lloyd caught up with Club goalkicking great Matthew Richardson this week for a special Roar Vision video feature. Here’s a snapshot of Lloyd’s thoughts on a variety of Tiger topics...
On his start to season 2015
“I’m pretty happy with the way I’m going. I’ve been a bit quiet at times, and found a bit of the footy at other stages as well. So, three rounds in, I’m pretty happy with it.”
On a potential push into the midfield
“’Ladey’ (assistant coach Brendon Lade) put me in for about two minutes on Saturday (against Brisbane), and he apologised to me . . . I tried to develop my tank over the off-season, which I think’s worked. You can’t just be a forward that sits in the goal-square these days, so I’ve developed my tank and, depending on what happens, hopefully I can push in the midfield at some stage.”
Richmond and Melbourne will play in the first Anzac Day eve match this Friday night at the MCG
On the team’s forward structure
I think the forward line in general is working well at the moment with Jack (Riewoldt) and ‘Griffo’ (Ben Griffiths) and Shane (Edwards) and ‘Nipper’ (Nathan Gordon) down there and starting to click, which is good.”
On his kicking for goal
“I try and back myself in. If I think I can kick it, I’ll go back and kick it, which is probably something I tried to look to improve last year . . . If I think I can kick it, I’ll go back and have a shot at it.”

On the importance of defence
“Except for the Dogs game, I think we’ve been working well. I think that comes from our defence, more than our offense . . . If we’re switched on in that regard, then the offense has taken care of itself. So if we go in with the right attitude, and we defend first and then get on our bike, in the offense part of things, I think we go a long way to winning the game.”
On the Anzac Day eve clash with Melbourne
“Obviously, Anzac Day is a big part of the Australian culture. I think it’s great that we get to play on a Friday night, be part of that Anzac tradition, and go out there on the big stage and hopefully get a win.”
