There wouldn’t be a league football fan throughout the length and breadth of the land that is now unaware of Sam Lloyd, following his post-final siren heroics for Richmond against Sydney at the MCG last Saturday night.
What may well not be as well known by those outside the Yellow and Black faith, is just how impressive Lloyd has been so far in 2016.
Lloyd, who worked diligently on improving his fitness over the pre-season period, has kicked 15 goals in the eight rounds this year and is averaging 14 disposals per match. He’s scored multiple goals on five occasions and been a real X-factor across Richmond’s forward line.
Tenacious Tiger midfielder Anthony Miles spoke in glowing terms about Lloyd’s overall 2016 output.
“I think he’s been fantastic this year,” Miles said on 3AW.
“In a tough start to the year for us, he’s been consistently playing some really good footy . . .
“It’s a testament to him and the work he’s done. He’s probably one of the hardest workers at the Club . . .
“He’s got himself in a really good position, and he’s reaping the rewards from it now.”
Lloyd, 26, has played 28 games of senior league football all-up for Richmond and kicked 38 goals.
