Tiger depth stretch
The stretching of Richmond’s depth in recent weeks is highlighted through the following statistical fact . . .
In the first 10 rounds of this season (up to the St Kilda game), the Tigers had used just 27 players, which was one of the lowest totals in the competition.
To the end of Round 16, however, the number of players used by Richmond has swollen to 35.
This means that eight players have made their first appearances in the Yellow and Black this season during the past five games (Round 13 was the bye) - Brett O’Hanlon, Daniel Connors, Todd Elton, Luke McGuane, Tom Derickx, Kelvin Moore, Angus Graham and Jeromey Webberley, with the latter three all coming into the Tigers’ line-up for last Saturday’s clash with the Gold Coast Suns.
Only eight Richmond-listed players (including four rookies) were able to line up with Coburg last weekend due to the flow-on effect of the Club’s recent spate of injuries and suspensions.
The list of players used by each AFL club in the first 16 rounds of the season is:
41 - Gold Coast, Greater Western Sydney
37 - Fremantle
36 - Collingwood, Geelong, Melbourne
35 - Richmond, Brisbane
34 - North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, Western Bulldogs
33 - Adelaide, Carlton, Essendon, St Kilda, West Coast
32 - Hawthorn
30 - Sydney
