After impressing in a three-kilometre time trial with the young members of Richmond’s playing group on Saturday morning, recently re-signed small forward/midfielder Kane Lambert sat down with ‘Roar Vision’ to talk about a range of Tiger-related topics. Here’s what he had to say . . .
Good times for Tigers
“Obviously this time of year we want to come back in great shape and set ourselves up for a big pre-season. The boys ran well today and I think ‘Burgey’ (Richmond’s Physical Performance Manager Peter Burge) is pretty happy with the times. I ran not a bad time, just off my PB (personal best). ‘Drummo’ (Nathan Drummond) ran really well and I tried to tack on to him as long as I could.”
Setting high standards
“We have to challenge each other with everything we do, whether it’s tackling or one-on-one or time trials. We have to challenge ourselves to get better, and that competitive edge is what we need.”
Off-season holiday
“Me and ‘Shorty’ boy (Jayden Short) headed to Vietnam for about two and a half weeks . . . We really enjoyed it. He was on edge, Shorty – he can’t sit still. So it was good to be with him . . . he always wanted to do something.”
First week back at the Club
“It’s been really exciting. A few changes around the place and the young boys are really excited. There’s a lot of energy and the place is really vibrant . . . There have been a few new additions with the coaching staff. It’s been great to get to know them. In just a week, we’ve already learned a hell of a lot off them. And it’s been great to see a few of the new players pop in.”
His new one-year deal with the Tigers
“I’m very fortunate, very happy to be at Richmond for another year and I can’t wait to tackle the 2017 season.”
His on-field position for 2017
“Hopefully I play the high half-forward role, with stints in the midfield. But wherever the coach thinks I’m best for the team, I’m happy to play there.”
Key focus leading into next season
“We’ve got to keep taking our game to another level, whether it’s our fitness, our strength in the gym or just our pure football skills . . . Every aspect of my game needs to get better, as well as the whole group . . . We’ll be challenging each other for that.”
